A woman in Wisconsin woke up from a nap in the back seat of her car to a living nightmare when she realized the man driving was not her husband, but a stranger speeding down the highway.

The woman was sleeping in her SUV while her husband stepped out briefly when Kyle Wagner, 51, jumped in the driver's seat and took off from Love’s Truck Stop in Columbia, Wisconsin on January 14 around 3 am.

When the woman awoke, she was told by Wagner that someone wanted to kill them both and he was saving her, according to documents obtained by WMTV. The chilling explanation can be heard in the background of a 911 call the woman made while being kidnapped.

'Why you take the car from the gas station,' the woman asked Wagner.

To which he responded: 'Because they're following us... your husband.'

The woman, who wasn't identified, was asked multiple times by a dispatcher where she was heading.

Wagner, however, was driving at a high speed and she wasn't able to identify precise locations.

'[The woman] reported that Wagner told her that he was a truck driver and that there was a conspiracy and that people wanted to kill them so he was saving her,' the arrest report read.

She added that 'Wagner told her that if her husband was worried about her, he would be calling, but he’s not calling because he’s already dead.'

It was unclear where Wagner was heading but he didn't appear to mind that the woman was on the phone with a dispatcher.

'You know, you should get back,' the woman pleaded.

'I will. Okay, I’m going back,' Wagner can be heard saying, but he kept police on his tail for over an hour.
